Penticton’s Okanagan Valley is set to host Expedition Canada, the ultimate adventure race from May 23-29, 2023. Organized by Hoodoo Adventures, this gruelling multi-day non-stop race covers approximately 580 kilometres, offering participants an unforgettable adventure like no other.
Expedition Canada welcomes participants from novice teams to seasoned adventurers. While finishing the race is not guaranteed for novice teams, the challenges they will face demand resilience, technical skills, and an unwavering determination to overcome obstacles. The sense of accomplishment and the experiences gained throughout the journey are invaluable.

The exact course for Expedition Canada is kept secret until a few hours before the event. Participants gather for a locked-down course briefing, where the course outline and logistic diagram are unveiled. This adds an extra layer of thrill and ensures a fair playing field for all teams.
The race encompasses various disciplines, including trekking or trail running, orienteering, mountain biking, paddling, and ropes/canyoning. Navigation skills play a crucial role, as good route planning can determine success or failure. Racers must be well-practiced in these areas to tackle the diverse terrains and elevations of the Okanagan Valley.
Mountain biking is a critical discipline, with standard mountain bikes being mandatory. The race takes participants through breathtaking trails, including technical single tracks, quad trails, and some road segments. Paddling sections involve navigating fast-moving water using pack rafts and canoes. Canoes are provided by the organization, while packrafts are the responsibility of the racers.
Expedition Canada presents ambitious goals but ensures inclusivity by providing ample time for completion. The fastest teams are expected to finish within four days, while all teams have a maximum of seven days. A dark zone restricts progress during the night for safety reasons.
The race features a live tracking system, allowing friends, family, and spectators to follow the progress of each team online. Daily updates are provided through social channels, capturing the racers in action. Expedition Canada‘s Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube accounts offer an immersive experience for followers.
The event not only tests participants’ physical abilities but also celebrates the spirit of exploration and camaraderie. It serves as a qualifying race for the Adventure Racing World Series, attracting teams from around the world to compete in the stunning landscapes of Penticton’s Okanagan Valley.
Expedition Canada promises to be an exhilarating event, showcasing determination, resilience, and the thrill of adventure as athletes conquer the challenges of the rugged Okanagan Valley.
